The next edition of the WEIRD WEEKENDER film festival - a hub of film culture and exchange for cinema fans and creatives - takes place from November 13 to 15.
Stuttgart’s very own international festival dedicated to weird, wild, and wonderful genre and indie cinema is returning for its fourth edition!
This year's Startnext campaign has launched:
Every cent goes toward preparation, organization, and execution. The larger the budget, the more we can offer you.
It’s all about passion and heart for the niche of "weird" cinema, and about creating formats to celebrate it where it belongs: on the big screen! The creators behind the festival - and the monthly film series that started it all - have always sought out unique, perhaps offbeat, and consistently intense experiences, both as creative industry professionals and as fans. This "niche" is thriving worldwide, but you have to create the platforms for it and actually get things moving. That is exactly what we are doing - now for the fourth time, and with ever-growing success 🙂
All funds raised via Startnext will go directly toward pre-financing the festival's operating costs. We have fixed costs to cover - such as the venue rental at the Innenstadtkino Stuttgart - as well as somewhat controllable expenses for film licensing; beyond that, we need a financial cushion to accommodate the special elements that international guests and supporting programs bring to the festival. The more funding we secure early on, the more we can cover in terms of accommodation, travel, and expenses, allowing the program to grow in scope and quality and become a truly fantastic experience for the community.
Due to cuts in cultural funding, we have to scale back slightly this year and are currently scheduled to kick off the festival on Friday. However, if the crowd helps us securely cover the initial costs of €7,500, we would move the start date up to Thursday and include two opening films (as in previous years).
